Deputies have arrested a man who wore a sheet over his head while he robbed a Hess gas station in Brevard County on Sunday.
Around 4 p.m., David Richard Spedden, 68, of Cocoa, entered the gas station at 4000 N. U.S. 1, in Cocoa. Employees told deputies that Spedden was masked with a sheet over his head and was displaying a black handgun.
Spedden then demanded money from the cash register. He left the area on foot, deputies said.
Employees told deputies that they believed they recognized the suspect as a daily customer, identifying him by his voice and clothing that he normally wears when frequenting the store.
Around 7:20 p.m., deputies located Spedden's vehicle and took the man into custody following a traffic stop.
Agents obtained a search warrant for Spedden's home in Cocoa. Inside, they found the weapon and clothing used during the robbery.
Spedden was charged with armed robbery with a firearm, aggravated assault and battery. He is currently being held at the Brevard County Jail Complex without bond.
