Another step toward sending Americans into space from U.S. soil is expected to take place Monday.

The United Launch Alliance Delta IV heavy rocket being used for the first flight test of the new Orion spacecraft is scheduled to be rolled out today.

The rocket was supposed be rolled out at 2 p.m., but weather has pushed the possible rollout time to no earlier than 6 p.m., officials said. A backup time has been set for 8 p.m.

The vehicle will be moved to the launch pad at Space Launch Complex 37 at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.

The Delta IV rocket will then be raised to vertical position Tuesday.

The Orion spacecraft itself will be transported to Complex 37 and hoisted atop the rocket in mid-November.

The test flight is scheduled for Dec. 4.
