Winter Park Memorial Hospital, a Florida Hospital, will attempt to break a Guinness World Record on Saturday in an effort to raise breast cancer awareness.

To kick off Pink Out Winter Park 2014, participants will attempt to reclaim the Guinness World Record for the most number of people standing on one leg, like a flamingo.

Ken Bradley, CEO of Winter Park Memorial Hospital, said Pink Out is a "very creative way to bring awareness to those who may be suffering (from) breast cancer or those who may need to be treated or checked in the future for what could be a devastating illness."

So far, more than $60,000 has been raised in the fourth-annual Pink Out event, and the money will go toward people who may not have a mammography and or even for people who need to be treated for breast cancer.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

"In the last three years, we've actually diagnosed six women with breast cancer," Bradley said. "They've received full treatment and, in many respects, we've saved their lives because of this Pink Out event."

In 2012, the hospital had more than 1,700 people standing on one leg as a flamingo for more than two minutes.

"It's a very interesting process," Bradley said. "You don't just say, 'We're going to set up a Guinness World Record.' We actually have to have people in certain areas that we audit and check."

Six weeks after the Winter Park hospital set the record, however, a similar event in London broke the record, with 2,100 people.

"We're throwing the gauntlet down," Bradley said. "We're going to take it back from (London)."

Bradley said the goal is to get 3,000 people out there Saturday night.

Bradley called it a fun event, adding: "And hopefully we're saving lives by standing on a leg for two minutes."

The first time around, there were people of all ages, from 8 to 88, Bradley said.

"That's exactly what we want," he said. "Everyone is welcome. And we need everyone, actually, to be able to set this record."
