Thousands of people across Central Florida are taking time out of their day to help others.

Today is United Way's 23rd annual Day of Caring, which is the organization's largest community volunteer effort each year.

The Heart of Florida United Way, which serves Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties, has approximately 2,000 volunteers signed up to give back.

We caught up with one group Friday as they served food at the Coalition for the Homeless in Orlando.

"This is a great opportunity to mobilize the caring power of our community and getting our volunteers engaged with making some significant impact in our community," said United Way Volunteer Resource Center Director.

The Heart of Florida chapter of the United Way has more than 40 projects happening Friday, including building a community garden in Osceola County as well as reading and playing games with kids.
