A commander with the Flagler County Sheriff's Office suffered several bite wounds after he was attacked by a dog Monday as he jogged along Matanzas Woods Parkway.

Cmdr. Steve Cole, a 20-year veteran of the agency, was out running on the bike path along Matanzas Woods Parkway around 6:51 p.m. Monday.

Cole told responding deputies that he saw two dogs being walked by a man. The dogs were on leashes.

Cole said he tried to give the dogs plenty of space when he passed, but a larger black dog pulled the leash out of the man’s hand. The dog ran toward Cole.

According to the report, the dog the jumped on Cole and bit him two different times. Cole told the deputy that he collected some of the man's information but went home to call the Sheriff's Office and to evaluate his injuries.

Cole refused medical treatment and told deputies that he would decide on going to a doctor at a late time.

The deputy eventually talked to the man who was walking the dogs, later identified as 20-year-old Timothy Rang.

Rang told deputies that his older brother is the owner of the dogs, but that he recently moved to Gainesville. Rang was walking the dogs.

Rang said the dog, Scar, pulled the leash out of his hand and then attacked Cole. Rang was able to provide the deputy with Scar’s rabies vaccination records, which indicated the dog was vaccinated in August.

The dog's breed wasn't provided in the report.

On Tuesday, a deputy with the Flagler County Sheriff's Office was forced to use his agency-issued Taser on a violent pit bull after the dog bit three people in Palm Coast's P-section.
