One person is dead and two others seriously hurt following a head-on crash in Sumter County.

It happened around 4 p.m. Monday at the intersection of State Road 50 and County Road 721.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers said a Hyundai Sonata was headed west on SR-50 when the driver crossed into the eastbound lanes.

The car then crashed into an SUV.

The car’s driver, a 22-year-old man from Tampa, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger in the car and the SUV’s driver both sustained serious injuries.

Investigators said the dead man, who troopers have yet to identify, was not wearing a seatbelt.
