Three businesses suffered minimal damage in a late-night fire in Marion County, officials said.

Dispatchers at the Marion County Public Safety Communications Center received multiple calls around 9:36 p.m. reporting a fire at 2488 S.E. 58th Ave., in Ocala.

Smoke was showing through a section of the 35,000-square-foot facility when units arrived to the scene.

The plaza houses Dollar General, Express Cleaners of Ocala, C&D Coliseum and two other vacant units. The fire appears to have originated between the Dollar General and Express Cleans of Ocala due to the re-ignition of hot tar used in work that was being done on the building’s roof, officials said.

About 25 firefighters and 10 units responded to the incident. The fire was under control within 30 minutes.

There were no injuries, and despite damage to the roof and from smoke, officials predicted businesses would be able to reopen Saturday morning.
