The sounds of music are in the air as Southwest Germany celebrates Oktoberfest. A little closer to home, one revered spot that celebrates with good food and music each fall and year-round.

At dusk in downtown Sanford the polka pours just as rapidly as the beer at Hollerbach's Willow Tree Café.

"I always wanted to re-create that and the spirit of that. And somehow it seems to work right here in Sanford,” said Theo Hollerbach, the owner of The Willow Tree Café.

Early in life, Theo spent summer's living in his native Germany learning from his grandparents, before transferring back to Orlando to attend school.

"We would put up little tents, and have Oktoberfest all summer long,” Theo recalls of summers in Germany. “The Americans would come from the (military) bases and Germans would come and we would celebrate every weekend."

The tradition continues in Sanford with the passing of the brew in a boot.

"They come from all over Central Florida, Jacksonville, Tampa,” Theo shared.

The Willow Tree's menu is legendary.

"It's authentic German food,” expounds diner Letha Ludwig.

Here, the smoked pork shank and schnitzel come with Theo's family recipe for potatoes.

While it's Oktoberfest year-round inside the Willow Tree, some folks come clad in Lederhosen.

“You can come in here, and as you can tell, you have quite a few people who sit right next to each other, who don't know each other, and have a wonderful time,” said singer and band member Eckhard Wachsmuth.

Just make sure you leave room for dessert. The cake is “sehr gut" (sure good).

And making sure you have a reservation is also a smart idea.

"I have people approaching me who say, 'We don't even have this anymore in Germany,” Eckhard Wachsmuth concluded.
