Police said a resident of The Villages pulled a gun on a 19-year-old woman. In an exclusive interview she said she was leaving her grandmother’s house two weeks ago when she said a man in a Jeep came speeding up from behind her as she neared the Brownwood Plaza in the Sumter County retirement community.

“He was just raging, like tailing my car. He was right behind me,” the woman said.

The woman said she still doesn’t know what she did to upset the driver, but as she approached the stoplight at Powell Road and County Road 44A he pulled his car in front of her, stopping her from being able to turn.

Finally she got free and headed down Powell Road trying to make a U-turn. She said he cut in front of her and slammed on his breaks.

“To try not to hit him my car was swerving across the road and I had to get control again,” she said.

Finally as she was able to get to a spot to make a U-turn she said the man, identified as 55-year old Villages resident Bruce Murray, pulled out a gun and pointed it at her, calling her a derogatory name.

“I was just in fear, I just thought of getting shot,” the 19-year-old said.

She got Murray’s license plate and Wildwood police were finally able to track him down after two weeks.

He was arrested Monday after admitting he pulled the semi-automatic handgun, but he told police he did it in self-defense. Police searched his Jeep and found the gun inside. Both were seized.

Murray couldn't be reached for comment. He’s free on $2,000 bond but police say he could be facing additional charges.
