According to recently published research, a new blood test could help diagnose depression in adults.

The blood test measures the levels of nine genetic indicators in the patient's blood.

Researchers at Northwestern University say the results could then be used to determine who will respond to behavior therapy and whether the treatment worked.

Depression affects nearly 7 percent of adults in the U.S. every year.
