News 13 has obtained a report with crucial information in the case against an Orange County man accused of killing his girlfriend in front of her two young kids.
John Michael DeJesus is facing a first-degree murder charge for the death of 22-year-old Yoliz Marie DeJesus Borrero.
Borrero was killed April 30 inside the Orange County home she shared with DeJesus.
Her children, a toddler and 4-month-old, also lived with the couple.
A Florida Department of Law Enforcement report shows DeJesus’ DNA was not found on the alleged murder weapon, a semi-automatic pistol. However, Borrero’s DNA was located on the firearm, according to the report.
Officials said investigators did not collect a DNA sample from DeJesus at the time of the murder.
Homicide detectives released video from a neighbor's surveillance system showing what officials said was DeJesus dumping the murder weapon in a retention pond.
DeJesus initially told investigators three men broke into his house during a robbery and, then killed his girlfriend in front of her children. Investigators did not believe his story.
DeJesus remains behind bars at the Orange County Jail.
A pretrial hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.
DeJesus' murder trial is scheduled to begin Sept. 29.
