A stretch of Ridgewood Avenue has reopened after a fire destroys a Volusia County hotel room.

The fire broke out around 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Regency Inn, 617 N. Ridgewood Ave.

A fire department spokesman said an ambulance driver spotted smoke billowing from one of the rooms and called 911.

Both northbound and southbound lanes of Ridgewood Avenue were closed as firefighters put out the fire. The road has since reopened.

Due to conflicting reports, the State Fire Marshal's Office has been called in to investigate.

"The room is [a] complete loss," said Daytona Beach Fire Battalion Chief Robert Turner. "But there was no extension to the side rooms at this time. Just some minor smoke damage."

The fire caused approximately $65,000 in damage.

No one was injured in the fire.
