Tropical Depression One advisory

11 p.m. - Tropical Depression Five has formed in the bay of Campeche, is now 225 miles from Tuxpan, Mexico.

A tropical storm warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected somewhere in the warning area within 36 hours.

Discussion and 48-hour outlook

At 4 p.m. EDT, the center of Tropical Depression Five was located near latitude 21.0 north, longitude 93.9 west.

The tropical depression is moving toward the northwest at 10 miles per hour. A turn to the west-northwest is expected on Tuesday.

The center of the storm is expected to approach the coast of Mexico by Tuesday night.

Maximum sustained winds are near 30 miles per hour, with higher gusts. Some strengthening is forecast during the next 24 hours, and the depression is expected to become a tropical storm by Tuesday.

The estimated minimum central pressure, based on data from a reconnaissance aircraft, is 1007 mb or 29.74 inches.

Hazards affecting land

RAINFALL: The depression is expected to produce rainfall amounts between 3 and 6 inches with isolated maximum amounts of 10 inches across Southern Tamaulipas, Nothern Veracruz and Eastern San Luis Potosi through Wednesday evening. This rainfall could cause life-threatening flash floods and mudslides in areas of mountainous terrain.

WIND: Tropical storm conditions are expected within the warning area by late Tuesday.
