Good news for anyone commuting through or into downtown Orlando; Orange Avenue will be reopening after a portion of the road was closed for construction.

Officials say the section of South Orange Avenue between Anderson Street and South Street will full reopen Monday, August 11, at 6 a.m., though the right turn lane on eastbound South Street onto Southbound Orange Avenue will remain closed to facilitate additional construction activities.

Those portions of the road had been closed since July 19 to accommodate reconstruction of the roadway for a future turn lane to tie into the upcoming expansion to I-4.

The primary reason for the closure, however, was pedestrian enhancements, according to officials. Those enhancements include improved crosswalks and increased audible pedestrian signals.
