The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a hit-and-run crash that killed 20-year-old Nicholas Lee Smith, who was riding his bicycle on State Road 50 early Friday morning.
Troopers say the man was riding a bicycle on SR-50 in the eastbound lanes, and two unknown vehicles were traveling eastbound on SR-50.
Witnesses say the first unknown vehicle struck Smith, and he was thrown into the inside lane, where he was struck by the second unknown vehicle. Troopers say both of these vehicles left the scene of the crash in unknown directions.
According to the police report, the second collision projected Smith into the direct path of a third vehicle that also struck the man.
Troopers say that third vehicle stopped, and stayed on the scene.
