Local leaders and residents of Central Florida rallied in Orlando in an effort to stop the violence. It comes on the heels of a shooting in Orange County, where sheriff’s deputies shot and killed a man they say was armed, and the police shooting in Ferguson, Missouri, is still on the minds of many people.

Dozens of people held candles in remembrance of those loved ones they lost to violent crimes in our community. All in hopes of reminding everyone that violence has a price. And for Patricia Davis that price cost her family her grandson.

“He was snatched, thrown in the back and taken away; killed and thrown in a house in pine hills and burned,” said Davis.

She came out tonight to spread the word that the Stop the Violence and Embrace organization wants to put an end to violence in the community.

“Gang violence, drugs, it’s not the answer,” Davis said.

Local leaders hit the stage tonight echoing the need to put an end to the fighting. State Sen. Geraldine Thompson told us the best way to do this is to get youths involved in the community.

"We have people who are willing to guide them so that people don’t have to resort to some of the harmful activities we see today,” said Davis.

Now they just hope more people spread the word and make an effort to stop violence in this community.
