After several days of unseasonably dry weather, more afternoon showers and storms gradually return to the forecast for the remainder of the week and into the weekend.

Winds coming from the east and eventually southeast will help boost moisture levels. We'll see isolated afternoon storms as highs inch back into the low to mid-90s. Along the coast, temperatures will stay closer to 90 degrees.

It will be a calmer day on the water as Hurricane Cristobal pulls further away from Bermuda. Swell will ease, but it will still be a hazardous day for swimming due to the elevated rip current threat. Although the surf will be considered good to fair, be sure to stay near a life guard and check in with the local conditions.

Any isolated evening showers will diminish as quiet conditions set in for the overnight. Lows will fall to the mid-70s area-wide.

With increased moisture back in the forecast, rain chances will be going up as a result starting Friday through the weekend. Holiday plans will not be washed out entirely, but there will be more numerous areas of showers and storms in the afternoon compared to recent days. High temperatures will heat up into the low to mid-90s, a bit above the seasonal high for this time of year, which is in the lower 90s.

In addition to Cristobal, we are also monitoring a wave of low pressure passing through the Lesser Antilles and entering the Eastern Carribean. There is also a broad area of low pressure south of Texas that has a very low chance for development in the next 48 hours. It is of some interest though, being close to the shore, so it is now Invest 98L and will be monitored closely. This low is moving west toward the Texas coast. The increased activity falls in line with the approach of the statistical peak of Atlantic Hurricane Season, which is considered to be on or around Sept. 10.
