Commuters on the SunRail saw major delays early Wednesday after a vehicle got stuck on the tracks in Downtown Orlando.

Florida Department of Transportation said a driver turned the car onto the tracks at Washington Street west of Orange Avenue Wednesday morning. A tow truck was needed to pull the car off the tracks.

There were delays of up to an hour because of that.

Three scheduled trips were also cancelled, said Steve Olson, FDOT spokesman. There were also delays because of needed track repairs near Winter Park, Olson said.

"The reason for the cancellations is this: At a certain point, the delayed trains create a time issue — a log-jam, so to speak — which will back up and delay matters even more," Olson wrote in an email. "So, the trips are cancelled, and the trains are reassigned a new time slot or trip."
