Neighbors took the law into their own hands when they beat a man outside of their homes. The man was suspected of lewd behavior in front of children.

The suspect is 33-year-old Felipe Way, who is being held on more than $10,000 bond in the Orange County Jail after he lied to police officers about why he was naked and beaten.

“We hemmed him up in the corner there,” said 60-year-old vigilante Willie Slater.

“It just shocked me," neighbor Angela McDonald said. "You know, I really didn’t know what he was doing. But, he was sitting in the chair over there and, um, I kept seeing the lighter. It don’t take that much to light no cigarette, because it kept going on and on and on…”

McDonald noticed something odd about the actions of Way outside of their home at Parkwood Inn off West Colonial Drive Saturday night. That’s when she yelled for Slater.

“Saturday night, the pervert," Slater said. "I don’t know him, never seen him before in my life, was out there in the park and, uh, he was naked.”

And Way was allegedly performing lewd acts in front of a female minor and a female senior. That’s when Slater and two others jumped into action, darting across the parking lot to not only confront Way but make sure he didn’t come around their homes again.

“God is good because I really might have…would have done something really serious to him,” Slater said.

After being tackled, Way left the area but was found by an officer. Way told the officer he was beaten and robbed. That is, until Slater and the others found him and told the officer what really happened.

Now Way is being held at the Orange County Jail for lewd and lascivious exhibition and other charges.

Slater said he didn’t let his age get in the way of letting him do what he had to do.

“I’m in good shape when it comes down to my kids,” Slater said.
