Another unseasonably dry day is in store today, with a few showers during the afternoon hours.

Gusty, northeasterly winds will keep coastal locations a bit cooler than our inland counties. We'll see mostly to partly sunny skies with highs in the upper 80s along the coast and low 90s inland.

The chance of rain remains at 20 percent, largely in the form of fast-moving showers, most of which will diminish as they move inland.

Hurricane Cristobal will continue its path away from the Bahamas and toward Bermuda, and as it gets further away from Central Florida, the ocean impacts will lessen. Seas will relax today to 4 to 7 feet, but those in small craft will still want to exercise caution. Dangerous rip currents will persist at the beaches, therefore swimming is not advised given the hazards; it is recommended that beachgoers check in with a lifeguard for the latest conditions.

Aside from a spotty shower, a tranquil evening is in store as lows fall to the mid- to upper 70s. Most of the shower activity will subside into the overnight. Fair skies will last through sunrise.

Thursday will offer another mostly dry day, but the chance for rain will increase to 30 percent as east to southeasterly winds take over and start to shift the pattern back to a more seasonable one for this time of year. By the weekend, highs will return to the low to mid-90s with elevated chances for afternoon showers and thunderstorms.

In addition to Cristobal, we are also monitoring a new wave of low pressure in the Central Atlantic. This system has a low chance of development in the next five days as it travels west toward the Lesser Antilles. There is also a broad area of low pressure south of Louisiana that has a very low chance for development in the next 48 hours. This low is moving west toward the Texas coast.  We are approaching the statistical peak of hurricane season, so the increased activity is happening right on schedule.
