In tonight's primary election, well-known former Florida governor Charlie Crist is going head-to-head against former Nan Rich, a former state senator.

Both Democratic candidates are in South Florida — an area critical to moving past the primary election. Crist's watch part is happening at the Hyatt Regency Pier 66 hotel, in Fort Lauderdale.

Before the watch party, though, Crist was out greeting voters. He talked about switching political parties and his plans if he wins tonight's primary.

"You know, today is Primary Election Day," Crist told a voter on the phone at a campaign stop in Boynton Beach.

He also met with supporters as they chanted "Fired up! Ready to win!"

When prompted about switching political parties, Crist said: "I was the governor who vetoed the ultrasound bill on women," Crist said. "That I was the governor, even as a Republican, who vetoed the bill that was going to be so dramatically devastating to education — Senate bill 6. I haven't changed. I am who I am."

Crist also talked about his decision to forego debating Rich throughout the campaign process.

"I have got to stay focused on the main event," he said. (Gov.) Rick Scott has $100 million, and that's a lot of money. I have to keep my eye on the ball."
