Monday is far from a picture-perfect day in Flagler Beach, but some anglers on the Flagler Beach Pier said it'll take much more than big waves to keep them away from the water.

The National Weather Service out of Jacksonville issued a wind advisory for Flagler County, which is in effect until 8 p.m. Monday. Gusts of up to 35 mph are expected along the coast.

And on the end of the iconic structure, there's a good bit of shimmy.

Seth Schlegel is visiting the area from Lewistown, Pennsylvania. He said seeing the ocean in the current choppy condition really puts into perspective how powerful storms are.

"Of course, living in Pennsylvania, we have nothing like this, but even though (Tropical Storm Cristobal) is so far out there ... you could tell what it'd be like," he said. "Because right now, it's still pretty cool to see."

Flagler County emergency managers said the pressure differences from Cristobal and high pressure from the north and west are responsible for the nor'easter conditions.

Red flags are flying up and down the coast, and the big wave action keeps most — not all — beachgoers on the shore.

School began last week, and so there are fewer lifeguards at Flagler Beach during the week
