An early-morning fire ripped through a flooring and carpet store in Volusia County, destroying the DeLand business before dawn Friday.

Investigators said the fire started around 4:50 a.m. Friday at Carpet Corner, on North Woodland Boulevard in DeLand. North Woodland Boulevard was shut down in both directions for much of the morning.

Firefighters arrived to find flames shooting from the roof. No one was inside the business at the time, which was filled with carpeting.

Fire officials said it is very flammable and didn't take long for flames to consume the entire structure.

No firefighters were injured in the blaze and crews are monitoring hot spots.

The cause of the fire is not yet known. The State Fire Marshal's Office has been called in to investigate.

The northbound lanes of North Woodland Boulevard, which is also US-17 in this area, remain closed.
