Volusia County Sheriff's deputies are investigating after a 15-year-old boy was shot during an attempted home invasion.
It happened around midnight Thursday on the 1400 block of 19th Street.
Constantine Joseph, 51, told deputies he returned home when two men wearing dark clothing and ski masks attacked him as he walked to the front door.
Joseph said they tried to force their way into the home. When Joseph fought back, he said the men beat and pistol-whipped him.
That's when deputies said Joseph's son tried to intervene and was shot just below his right knee.
The suspects then fled the scene.
The teen was transported to Halifax Health Medical Center with a non-life threatening injury. Joseph was treated at the scene.
Although the shooting is under investigation, deputies said it doesn't appear to be a random act.
Another adult inside the home, 43-year-old Laurie Ashley, was arrested on an open warrant for failing to appear in court.
