Three Florida Tech professors are about to have an 'out of this world' experience. Thanks to their research efforts, they will soon have access to the most powerful space telescope ever built.

The Hubble Space Telescope is renowned for its incredible images of deep space. Now these local professors will be able to use it for their studies.

Professor Eric Perlman, plus assistant professors Veronique Petit and Darin Ragozzine submitted proposals to the Space Telescope Science Institute, which runs the science program for the Hubble.

They were chosen from the worldwide 1,200 proposals on average each year, where only 1/5 are selected.

Now they will be studying high energy flows of matter and a massive magnetic star -- not possible from telescopes on the ground.

Also Ragozzine will study a dwarf ice planet with two moons in the outer solar system beyond Neptune.

Each will receive grants for their work as well.
