Police in Brevard County hosted Neighborhood Unity Day on Saturday.

Members of the Palm Bay and Melbourne police departments wanted to give back some more, and they did just that.

Officers spoke to disadvantaged kids and distributed school supplies to students in need.

Officials say the purpose of Unity Day was to create positive community spirit.

"We had crime in this neighborhood. We have come a long way. It's not all gone, but this neighborhood is much better and we want it to stay that way. So we can continue to have positive things in this neighborhood," said Sandra Pelham.

There was entertainment, music, and refreshments for everyone.

The Palm Bay and Melbourne Police Department says their goal is to continue to provide the best living environment for residents.
