A registered felon and sex offender was arrested Aug. 15 for his involvement in a robbery that occurred at a Bank of America in Osceola County, deputies said.

Jacques Kenneth Merlin, 40, of Poinciana, was arrested and charged with robbery and grand theft.

The investigation began around 2:35 p.m. Aug. 15, when Osceola County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the Bank of America located at 35 S. Doverplum Ave., in Poinciana.

Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the employee who indicated a man entered the bank and demanded money at gunpoint. He left the area in a vehicle.

Deputies were able to locate the vehicle at a home on Trophy Lane in Poinciana.

Merlin, who resides at the address where the vehicle was located, was questioned by detectives but did not cooperate with the investigation.

Based on the witness statements and evidence, Merlin was arrested and booked into the Osceola County Jail. Originally, it was thought he was armed, but after further investigation, it was determined he did not have a weapon and no one else was involved in the crime, deputies said.
