Monday brings good news for commuters who drive into downtown Orlando: The three-week construction work that shut down part of Orange Avenue is over.

Orange Avenue reopened just before 6 a.m. Monday. The stretch of the heavily traveled road between Anderson Street and South Street had been closed since July 19 while crews completed construction, causing headaches for many drivers downtown.

A detour in place for three weeks took drivers off at Central Boulevard, to Division Street and then Gore Street before they could get back onto Orange Avenue.

Now, that detour is a thing of the past, and traffic should hopefully be a lot smoother in downtown Orlando starting Monday.

The construction included roadway and pedestrian enhancements along the two-block stretch of Orange Avenue, as well as more construction on and around the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, which is set to open Nov. 6.
