By Friday, moisture will stream back in from the south, creating a more favorable environment for afternoon storms. Rain chances will be back up to 50 percent by then, lasting through the weekend. Highs will remain at or slightly above seasonal levels, in the middle to low 90s. The humidity will be back too, making it feel more like 100 degrees or greater.

As of 11pm Thursday night, we now have Tropical Storm Bertha. Thunderstorms surrounding low pressure east of the Windward Islands has winds around 45 miles per hour as it tracks to the west-northwest.  Models are in agreement of a path toward the northern Lesser Antilles before curving northwest to the Bahamas, but staying well east of Central Florida.

How to beat the heat

  • Drink plenty of fluids, especially water.
  • Stay in air conditioning, if possible. 
  • Stay out of the sun as much as you can.
  • Check on relatives, neighbors and pets who may be sensitive to heat-related illness.
  • Wear clothing that's lightweight, loose fitting and light-colored.
