Chief Judge Belvin Perry, Jr. is retiring and now we know who could be his potential successor.

Judges in Orange and Osceola counties have nominated Circuit Judge Frederick Lauten Jr. to lead the Ninth Judicial Circuit.

Judge Lauten was a prosecutor and then was appointed as an Orange County Judge in 1993, serving there until Governor Jeb Bush appointed him to the circuit bench in 1998.

Even though the judges nominated Lauten for the top post, a vote must still take place.

That vote will happen on August 5.
