Space Coast tourism leaders say this could be the best summer since before the recession.

It comes as we close out the second busiest tourism month for Brevard County.

This summer the Space Coast Office of Tourism is expecting occupancy at area hotels to be up 4 percent.

They've already seen a 12.4 percent increase in tourism tax dollars.

Those tax dollars mean more money to advertise the Space Coast.

The Space Coast Office of Tourism has a new marketing campaign and jingle called "I Need My Space."

People can submit themselves singing the jingle online for a chance to win a trip to the Space Coast.

Tourism leaders said the Space Coast isn't as well-known as other destination hotspots in Florida, but said they're trying to change that with the jingle and other marketing efforts.

“It's a catchy tune so when you sing it, 'I need my space.' Then you get to know it's the Space Coast," said Deputy Director of Tourism Bonnie King. "So it's a great tag line that we can use with our commercials that we do on radio and TV.”

They've also spent approximately $500,000 on billboards up and down Interstate 75 and I-95.

July is only second to March in the number of visitors to the Space Coast.

They're hoping to surpass their annual average of 2.5 million overnight visitors.
