A 21-year-old man was arrested Wednesday after he ran into a Florida Highway Patrol trooper's cruiser and then sped off in Orange County.

Peterson Mitchel, of Orlando, was traveling southbound in the right turn lane on Hiawassee Road, near State Road 50, around 12:11 p.m.

Florida Highway Patrol trooper Carlos Franco-Ramos was traveling westbound on State Road 50 in his marked patrol cruiser in the right through lane.

Mitchel ran the red light, and the front of his two-door Chevrolet struck the right side of the trooper's vehicle.

Mitchel then fled the scene without stopping. Franco-Ramos pursued Mitchel to a nearby apartment complex.

According to the report, Mitchel and a male passenger got out of the car and ran from the scene.

Franco-Ramos was able to catch Mitchel, the report states.

Mitchel was arrested for leaving the scene of a crash, fleeing and eluding and driving on a suspended license.  He was also charged with running a red light.

There were no injuries, the report states.
