An investigation into the possible rape of a 75-year-old woman in a Volusia County nursing home revealed two sexual offenders living in the facility.

Daytona Beach police were back out at the Daytona Beach Health and Rehabilitation Center in Daytona Beach — the facility where the patient was possibly raped.

The investigation revealed two registered sex offenders, John Arthur Lee, 58, and Isaac Rudolph Battles, 56, are living in the facility.

Police are not saying if the sexual offenders are suspects in the rape investigation, though.

Homeowners in the area, however, said they find it hard to believe that sexual offenders would live in a rehabilitation center.

"They should not be there," said Mike Brewer, who lives in the neighborhood near the nursing home. "I say get (them out of) there quick."

Mary Mitchell lives just down the road from the facility. Her mother is in a different nursing home not far from the Daytona Beach Health and Rehabilitation Center.

"I'm just in shock," Mitchell said.

News 13 asked Mitchell if she knows if sexual predators live in the same facility her mother is living in.

"No, I don't," Mitchell said. "And if I did find out, I would take my mother out immediately."

John Herrell, of the Department of Children and Families, said HIPPA laws prevent him from telling News 13 if DCF placed Lee and Battles in the facility.

But Shelisha Coleman, with Florida Agency of Health Care Administration — which oversees nursing homes like the Daytona Beach Health and Rehabilitation Center — said: "A nursing home is not required to tell family members if a sex offender lives in the facility. However, administrators should tell family members if asked about sexual offenders living there."

Coleman said families should go to floridahealthfinder.gov to learn what questions need to be asked before choosing the right nursing home for loved ones.

She does admit, however, the list of questions doesn't include if a sexual predator lives in the same nursing home.

Right now, police don't have any suspects in custody regarding the investigation into the 75-year-old woman who was sexually assaulted in the Daytona Beach facility.
