We’re two weeks away from the first day in Seminole County.

Along with registration and transportation issues, school district administrators are also sending a strong message about bullying as we head into the new school year.

At a back-to-school event at Fort Mellon Park Saturday, school officials made it a point to talk with parents and their children about bullying.

They are stressing that bullying will not be tolerated in school.

Mental health experts said it’s often students with mental disorders, who are easy targets for bullies and feel insecure, that resort to bullying as a defense mechanism and can become bullies themselves.

Several more back-to-school events will take place in the coming days where school officials plan on addressing the issue.
