The tornado that tore through Edgewater on July 25 caused about $723,000 in building damage, as estimated by the Volusia County Property Appraiser's office, officials said Monday.

The damage estimates don't include personal property that was damaged within the structures on Skyway Drive. Three plans were flipped over by the tornado, officials said. The estimate also includes a residential structure in the Wildwood subdivision that sustained damage to its shingles.

Residents and businesses have continued with cleanup throughout the weekend with no injuries or accidents reported.

Skyway Drive remains closed to traffic. City refuse crews are making extra pickups in the Wildwood Subdivision and on Skyway Drive on Monday. Crews will return to those areas Friday to pick up any remaining debris. Tree and vegetative debris must remain separate from any household trash or debris, such as sheet metal or insulation.

City officials urge people not to block mailboxes, water meters or drainage areas with any sort of debris. Any business on Skyway Drive that has private track pickups via a dumpster will need to have their debris removed by their refuse provider. Any debris found outside the Wildwood and Skyway areas may be placed along the street with the same parameters and will be picked up on the normally scheduled route day.

The National Weather Service on Saturday confirmed an EF-1 tornado touched down at 4:26 p.m. Friday, at the Massey Ranch Airport, in Edgewater. The tornado traveled about 1.5 miles and ended at 4:29 p.m. Estimated wind peaks were between 100 mph and 105 mph. The tornado was about 75 yards wide.
