The family of a teenager who died from a rare amoeba infection nearly three years ago is trying to give back to the community this weekend.

The family and friends of Courtney Nash held a blood drive Saturday in Titusville.

Courtney was just 16-years-old when she contracted an amoeba from swimming in the St. John's River in North Brevard County. She died a week later.

Her family hopes to save other people's lives by hosting this blood drive.

"We are trying to give back to the community by having people come out here to donate blood," said Courtney's mother, Patricia Nash-Ryder. "But also spread the awareness of the amoeba, trying to help save lives, pay it forward to other people."

Courtney's cousin also wrote a book about what happened to Courtney. It's called "A Single Swim."
