Seminole County deputies and the Casselberry Police Department worked together to arrest a man they say shot another man three times before attempting to flee the scene.

On July 25, the Seminole County Sheriff's Office and CPD responded to a call in the area of Howell Branch Road and Stefanik Road in Winter Park regarding multiple shots fired.

Upon arrival, deputies found the victim, David Velazquez, in the middle of the road with three gunshot wounds. Deputies say one of those bullets was still lodged in Velazquez's knee.

The Seminole County Fire Department arrived on scene and treated Velazquez and transported him to Orlando Regional Medical Center for surgery to remove the bullet still stuck in his leg.

Investigators say that 11 .40-caliber shell casings were recovered at the scene of the shooting.

While deputies were in the area and still investigating the crime scene, a traffic stop was conducted on an SUV that was leaving the area of the incident. Deputies say that SUV was occupied by a male later identified as Juan Colon, 20, and Brittany Giallanza, 22.

Deputies made contact with the vehicles owner, who gave them permission to search the vehicle. A K-9 unit arrived from Longwood to perform a free-air sniff and alerted law enforcement of the possible presence of narcotics.

During the search, deputies discovered a .40 caliber Smith and Wesson handgun that was wrapped in a shirt in a Hello Kitty backpack that was on the floor near the passenger seat.

The casings discovered at the scene matched the caliber of the handgun discovered in the vehicle, and Juan Colon was placed into investigative detention.

After an interview, Colon was arrested and charged with attempted murder, not premeditated.
