A rash of house fires of vacant homes earlier this month in Sanford looks to have re-ignited the search for who’s responsible.

This after two more homes went up in flames early Sunday morning.

Charred remnants and severe damage is all that’s left of two abandoned homes after house fires late Saturday night and into Sunday morning in Sanford.

The State Fire Marshall’s office -- as well as the area task force -- are trying to determine if Sunday’s fires on Palmetto are related, and most importantly, who’s responsible.

Earlier this month, six other fires happened; all within blocks of each other north of Ronald Regan Boulevard.

One of those structures was the historic Little Red schoolhouse built in the late 1800s – the building destroyed, including the irreplaceable memorabilia inside.

After six fires in three weeks, investigators not only want to catch the culprits but also learn why the fires were set.

In the meantime, it will be more clean-up while searching for what can be salvaged – and also for answers.

The Sanford Police Department and arson investigators are trying to figure out how to keep other abandoned homes from being destroyed.
