A puppy snatched from a seven-year-old boy has been returned, and the man accused of stealing him has been arrested.

The Cavallero family said a man stole the family's red nose pit bull as his son was walking him Sunday in their DeLand neighborhood.

Anthony Cavallero recalled what his son told him: “Just said, ‘is this your dog?’ and my son said ‘yeah, this is my dog,’ and he said ‘no it’s not,’ and took it."

Volusia County deputies checked around the neighborhood and were eventually led to Anthony Hill. A witness said Hill told him he'd stolen the dog and needed help returning it.

The neighbor found the dog months ago and cared for it up until she gave birth. That's when she gave it to the neighbor.

Deputies said another witness mentioned that Hill had a dog and lost it, and may have thought the pit bull was his.

Hill told deputies he recognized the dog as his dog Scooby, but Hill was not able to provide proof that he owned the dog.

Hill was arrested for grand theft.
