State health officials are cracking down on Medicaid marketing as the state prepares to roll out private insurance for low-income and disabled individuals.

Florida has banned health insurance companies from marketing their plans directly to Medicaid recipients.

The decision comes as the state rolls out its plan to privatize its health insurance program for low-income individuals and the disabled.

Private companies that have contracts with the state to provide care for Medicaid patients are allowed to market to consumers with prior state approval.
