Nearly two months since Alex Mazzan was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting outside Winnie Palmer Hospital, police have charged an Orange County man with first-degree murder with a firearm.

Brixton Dyer, 19, of Orlando, was arrested June 6 on unrelated armed robbery charges and was being held in the Orange County Jail without bond.

Homicide detectives officially charged Dyer with first-degree murder with a firearm on Tuesday. He was also charged with robbery with a firearm, two counts  of aggravated assault with a firearm, criminal mischief and two counts of battery.

Around 8 p.m. Monday, police responded near the intersection of South Lucerne Terrace and West Sturtevant Street. The area is right behind Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women and Babies and about a block away from both Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children and Orlando Regional Medical Center.

Police said two men were walking when a white, four-door, newer-model Nissan pulled up next to the victims with three or four men inside.

A verbal altercation ensued between both parties. Detectives said someone in the vehicle fired shots at the victims.

Mazzan was rushed to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he later died.

Dyer remains in the Orange County Jail.
