Florida is a closed-primary state, meaning if you want to vote in a political party's primary election, you must be registered for that party. So only Republicans can vote in the Republican primary, and only Democrats can vote in the Democratic primary.

If you're registered for one party — or no party — but want to vote in another party's primary, you can do that by changing your party affiliation before the registration deadline.

If all you need to change is your address, you can do that at any early polling place in your county when you go to cast your early ballot. It takes just a few minutes to process the change on the spot.

If you want to vote using an absentee ballot, make sure you but in your request to change your registration first. Then request an absentee ballot from your local Supervisor of Elections office. Your absentee ballot must be received by your local elections office by 7 p.m. on Election Day, August 26.
