Investigators with the Daytona Beach Police Department are currently investigating several suspicious phone calls where the call identifies himself as a law enforcement officer or judge.

In several calls, the suspect described himself as Lt. Mike Harris. The caller informs the potential victim that a family member has been arrested, and they must wire $5,000 in order for the family member to be released.

Residents should know that this tactic is a scam and no law enforcement agency in the area makes such phone calls.

As a reminder, never provide a caller with sensitive financial or personal information. The fact that the suspect in these cases is identifying himself as a judge or police officer is unscrupulous and should be reported.

Anyone with information about the suspect or information with similar circumstances is asked to Daytona Beach Police Department detective Trish Loomis at 386-671-5216 or email loomist@dbpd.us.
