An adult and three dogs were saved from a house fire in Osceola County thanks to several members of the Kissimmee Fire Department.

Crews with the Kissimmee Fire Department responded to a house fire at 2337 Virginia Drive around 10:33 a.m. Tuesday.

Firefighters rescued one resident and three dogs from the structure. The adult resident was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries, officials said.

Firefighters, with the assistance of Kissimmee Police Department officers, treated the pets with oxygen and water at the scene. The fire appeared to start in a bedroom and is not considered suspicious, officials said.

"The quick actions of our first responders prevented this fire from extending beyond the room of origin," said Jeremy Donovan, deputy fire chief of the Kissimmee Fire Department. "It's always a proud moment to watch our firefighters and police officers working together to help our citizens."

The resident was alerted by a smoke alarm.

"There is no better life-saving device than an operational smoke alarm to alert residents of a fire," Donovan said.

The smoke alarms were actually installed by the Kissimmee Fire Department in 2007 under a federal grant that provided free smoke alarms to residents at that time.
