A pregnant woman who Cocoa police say was abducted from a gas station Wednesday night is safe -- and her boyfriend is facing charges.

Police have confirmed 26-year-old Lance Jenkins is in jail charged with kidnapping, false imprisonment and aggravated battery.

Jenkins was arrested Thursday night.

Powell-Kielczewski did show up at the police department Thursday, and gave a statement saying that she was fine and not in danger; however, police say that according to witnesses, she is telling family, friends, and co-workers a different story.

Based on the victim’s 911 call, the store’s video, the store clerk’s statement and three other witness statements, investigators feel the arrest and charges are appropriate.

Investigators say 22-year-old Jamie Lee Powell-Kielczewski of Melbourne got in touch with them Thursday afternoon after information got out she was missing.

Investigators say Powell-Kielczewski was in a car that had stopped for gas at the Shell station on State Road 524 Wednesday night -- she went inside to pay while two men waited in the vehicle -- one of them, according to her family, was Jenkins.

Police say Powell-Kielczewski called 911 from the business phone, but spoke very softly, so dispatchers weren't able to get much information.

She went into the restroom and tried to call again -- that's when one of the men kicked in the door and reportedly took Powell-Kielczewski against her will.

Gas station patrons say it's frightening to hear.

"Something that you watch on tv, those things you see that you'd never expect to happen in our town," said Taylor Kerstetter, a neighbor.

Powell-Kielczewski is 4 and a half months pregnant, and told police on Thursday she did not want to press charges.

Though Powell-Kielczewski showed signs of abuse, police say she denied being a victim of abuse.

Police are still investigating the suspected kidnapping.
