If you commute into Downtown Orlando, pack the aspirin for your ride to work Monday.

A detour on Orange Avenue started over the weekend due to heavy construction.

The road will be closed from Anderson Street to South Street, and its going to last for the next few weeks.

The road closure is only about 1,000 feet, essentially less than two blocks, but it's going to to cause a lot of problems. It may even add more than 10 minutes to your commute, especially if you need to get on State Road 408.

With Orange Avenue being the only road that travels southbound through downtown Orlando, the traffic may back up more than officials are predicting.

The closure starts Saturday, July 18, and goes until Sunday, August 10, but digital notice signs have started going up for drivers.

If you are traveling southbound on Orange Avenue, officials suggest you make a right on Central Boulevard, and then a left on Division Avenue and continue south to Gore Street, where you can make another left back on to Orange Avenue.

The closure will allow for roadway and pedestrian enhancements, as well as more construction on the Dr. Phillips Performing Arts Center.

We're also told the won’t be any interruptions to Lynx bus service, but riders should also expect delays.

Again officials are anticipating backups come Monday morning at rush hour, suggesting you add at least 10 minutes to your commute.
