A man accused of feeding black bears just two doors down from a where a woman was seriously attacked by a bear entered a no contest plea in court today.

If you were wondering if this means Doug Cifers is admitting to feeding bears, the answer is no.

Cifers is still not admitting to feeding bears; despite photos and even video evidence that investigators say proves he fed the animals.

But in court Thursday morning, Cifers pleaded no contest to feeding wildlife, because his attorney says Cifers does not want to go through a long court process and eventual trial.

With the plea of no contest, he does not admit guilt, but Cifers will have to serve six months probation, perform community service, and pay hundreds of dollars in court costs to the state, including money to fish and wildlife.

Cifers lives in a Lake Mary neighborhood, just two houses down from Terri Frana, who was violently attacked and dragged by a bear in April.

Frana told investigators that Cifers bragged about feeding bears for months before the attack, and investigators say video shows Cifers feeding bears.

When News 13 asked Cifers’ attorney if Cifers was sorry about feeding bears, he was quick to point out that Cifers hadn't admitted to anything.

“I don’t think he’s admitted he did anything. He’s sorry that seven bears were destroyed for no apparent reason other than the State of Florida was trying to placate the public,” said Cifers' attorney, Kevin C. Maxwell.

A judge also ordered Cifers to never feed bears, even after his six months probation. While some may consider that to be a light sentence, Cifers legal woes may be far from over.
