Scientists at Johns Hopkins University are celebrating the New Horizons' successful course correction on Monday.

The spacecraft is on a mission to Pluto, and scientists were able to fire the craft's thrusters on Monday night for 88 seconds.

That burst sped up the vessel by more than 2 miles per hour.

New Horizons is due to arrive at its destination near Pluto next year, and it's closest approach to the dwarf planet is scheduled for July 14, 2015.
