A final vote came in and passed the ordinance Thursday, hoping to heavily regulate medical marijuana dispensaries in the city of Cocoa Beach.

News 13 first told you commissioners wanted to make sure pot clinics were few and far between, if voters approve medical marijuana on the November ballot.

The five-page ordinance passed by council members has plenty of guidelines to follow.

Commissioners have outlined only two spots in the entire city of Cocoa Beach where marijuana dispensaries can locate.

The two areas are in tourist hot spots near the Cocoa Beach Pier and behind Ron Jon Surf Shop.

Representatives for the pier and Ron Jon said they have no intention of setting up a medical marijuana dispensary.

It appears marijuana clinics will have difficulty setting up in Cocoa Beach, which is the way commissioners want it.

Commissioners said they want to maintain their family-friendly image and not be overrun by pot signs.

Existing pharmacies are exempt from the ordinance.
