A Brevard County commission candidate under investigation for alleged money laundering and role in a theft ring drops out of the race.

News 13 spoke to Lisa McDermott this morning, who was vying for the District 4 seat in this Fall's election.

She confirmed she is withdrawing her candidacy, but wouldn't comment further per her attorney.

McDermott and her husband James own the Ice Cream Depot on Wickham Road in West Melbourne. Last week Brevard Sheriff's agents served a search warrant there, and took away computers and other files.

Agents say James McDermott was the "ringleader" of a theft ring involving stolen property.

He told us last week he unintentionally bought stolen goods for resale on his eBay site, which they say is in Lisa McDermott's name.

Both believe the allegations are politically motivated.

The investigation is ongoing.
